Vusi preaches through music

Young and vibrant Vusi Sibisi has found his purpose in spreading the gospel through his music.

Tsakane – Young and vibrant Vusi Sibisi has found his purpose in spreading the Gospel through his music.

“I started performing and ministering at the age of 16 in the worship team and also began ministering at weddings, funerals and events, singing both cover versions and self-penned songs.

“That is when I knew that I had something special.”

Born and raised in Tsakane, Vusi says his world was shaped by the harsh realities in his community during the apartheid era.

“I grew up listening to a lot Rebecca Malope, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Letta Mbulu, Dolly Parton and Tracy Chapman.”

With no formal music training, Vusi took it upon himself to learn as much as he could from the music he was exposed to.

“He wanted to become a profound singer. He started emulating other artists that he looked up to and aspired to grow into an artist of their level and talent,” says Lerato Tshoane, artist manager at Conceptor Management and Projects.

He teamed up with the likes of keyboardist Timothy Sibanyoni, maestro bassist Nkululeko Sithole, drummer Kgotso Baleni and guitarist Divine Mitchell.

Now Vusi is leaving his own mark and taking his music to new heights.

“He recorded his debut album, Journey off, in 2016, which features a few of his talented friends,” Tshoane says.

His genre of music is urban contemporary Gospel mixed with Afro-soul, pop and African traditional jazz-soul.

“The album will take you on a journey of my life, with songs like ‘Inhlupheko zomzuzwana ziya ndlula’, which means that tribulations are only temporary,” says Vusi.

Although the album is not available at retail stores, Vusi and his team will arrange for delivery to anyone who is interested in buying one.
