Dustbin cleaners share profits with the less fortunate

Dustbin cleaners shared their profits with some of the children in the area who didn't have school shoes.

KwaThema – A group of friends in the area founded a dustbin cleaning business a year ago in their community.

Unemployment has not stopped the youth of KwaThema from coming up with alternative ways to make money and keep busy.

The group collects over 100 bins every Monday and charges their clients R10 per bin to clean them.

Thabang Molokoane says he decided to invite his friends to join him to keep busy and avoid finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

“We have since registered the business and are working hard to expand it to other areas,” says Molokoane.

He says their clients have an option of paying for their services monthly, fortnightly or on Mondays.

“We use the profit to help grow the business by reinvesting in the business and trying to improve a community member’s life.

“We recently identified two children in the area who didn’t have school shoes and were forced to wear worn-out home sneakers.

“We donated two pairs of school shoes. We are hoping that this gesture will help brighten their daily journey to school and they will no longer be teased by their friends.

“We are looking to help more children in the areas in which we operate,” he says.

Thabang says they plan to grow the business to a point where it will be able to employ young people.

“One of our biggest problems at the moment with expanding our services to other areas is water supply.

“We are currently using water from my home, which is convenient for us,” he says.
