Grade R learners learn about different cultures

Grade R learners compete in life skills competition.

KwaThema – Grade R learners from Zamani Primary School participated in a life skills competition held at Werda Laerskool and hosted by the Gauteng East District on Saturday.

The competition saw all the circuit 5 schools in KwaThema and Springs targetting the number one position, as they competed in traditional dances and various traditional activities from different groups.

Zamani Primary School managed to be crowned in position three.

The school’s principal, Selby Nkosi, says he is proud of his learners for representing the school with pride.

“The competitions are a great opportunity for the learners to be able to adapt and be ready to tackle mainstream education.

“Grade R foundation is very important for all learners because this is where the learners are prepared for mainstream education.

“They are learning the importance of hard work and winning,” he says.

Selby says he always encourages the learners in his school to participate in all forms of sports.

“This helps boost their self-esteem and confidence to be active in class and excel in their studies,“ he says.

Foundation phase teacher Nomvula Mukasi says they are proud of the learners.

“The learners were exposed to different traditional dances and were given an opportunity to learn more about different cultures in the country,” she says.
