Yende murder: Suspect arrested in Carltonville

Man appears before the Springs Magistrates Court in connection with Thembisile Lucia Yende's murder.

A man was arrested in connection with Thembisile Lucia Yende’s death last Thursday.

Thembisile’s decomposing body was found in her office at the Eskom Pieterboth substation, in Struisbult, last month after she had been missing for two weeks.

Springs police spokesperson Captain Johanness Ramphora says the suspect was arrested in Carltonville, on the West Rand, on Thursday.

“He appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.

“The suspect was denied bail and the case has been postponed to June 26.

The own of the BMW, which police suspect was used during the murder, was found dead before the police had the opportunity to question him.

Ramphora says the man died of natural causes and his family confirmed he had been sick for a while.

“The man was an important key to helping solve the case, but investigations are still underway to arrest more suspects linked to the murder,” he says.

Family spokesperson Mboneni Yende, Thembisile’s brother, says they are happy there is progress in the case.

“We are working with the police and giving as much information as possible to help with the case.

“We want Thembisile’s killers to be found and to pay for cutting her life short,” he says.
