Twenty-five complete nyaope rehabilitation programme

Twenty-five out of 65 recovering addicts successfully completed a rehabilitation program.

Daveyton – Proud parents gathered at the Alliance Church to welcome back 25 nyaope addicts from rehab on Friday.

Two months ago 65 drug addicts came forward and asked to be enrolled in a rehabilitation centre.

EMPD’s programme facilitator, Superintendent Pamela Buthelezi, then organised rehabilitation for nyaope users from Daveyton.

She says the group was enrolled in a rehabilitation centre in Cullinan, Tshwane.

“Unfortunately 40 addicts defaulted and escaped the centre without completing the programme.

“I have been called to the centre on numerous occasions because of some of the troublesome patients.

“I have also lost some of my valuables and others in the centre did too, but I am happy that they are back home.

“Those who completed the programme will be enrolled in various youth programmes, including skills training.

“We are going to place more interested young users in the programme to help them clean up their act and build a better future.

“Those interested must contact EMPD or Alliance Church,” she says.

MMC of Community Safety, Vivian Chauke, says she has a budget of R2-million for a community youth empowerment programme which the youth will be enrolled in.

“It is their responsibility to make sure that they use the opportunities they are given to improve their lives.

“We are proud such a big number chose to brave the pain and completed the rehabilitation programme.

“We are hoping they continue fighting the urge to start smoking again and become responsible citizens,” she says.

She says the group is welcome to seek any form of assistance they need from her office.
