Fun and games and medals for KwaThema Crèche at Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games

KwaThema - The children at KwaThema Crèche won second place in the Ekurhuleni Metro Kiddies Games, held in Germiston, on Saturday.

The games are aimed at boosting the youngsters’ gross motor skills and helping them build confidence in their athletic abilities before they are introduced to formal sport in school.

Other objectives are to instil a love of sport in the children and to promote the importance of healthy living at a young age.

The children competed at riding bicycles, kicking and throwing balls, and riding a tyre.

Principal of KwaThema Crèche Angeline Makua says the children started off by competing in the local leg of the Kiddies Games, in KwaThema.

“They graduated to the next leg of the competition, the regional competition, in Brakpan, and then qualified for the Ekurhuleni Kiddies Games.

Angeline says she is proud of her team’s competitive spirit.

“We were able to represent KwaThema in the competition and brought back a medal.

“These games help the children to keep fit and allow them to interact with children from other areas.

“They also prepare them for mainstream schooling,” she says.

Angeline says the children won medals, hot water bottles and winter hats and the school received two bicycles and a 20-litre water filter machine.
