Celebrating Nurses’ Day

Tsakane - Pholosong Hospital celebrated International Nurses’ Day on May 19.

The celebrations took place in the hospital’s dining hall.

The theme of the day for 2017 was: “A Voice to Lead – Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.

Nursing manager Fikile Mabuza encouraged nurses to soldier on.

She told them not to be discouraged by the negativity that the hospital faces sometimes.

“Do your work diligently despite the complaints and hardship,” says Mabuza.

Johanna More, the chief director of nursing services in Gauteng, attended the event.

More emphasised the importance of nurses showing humility when executing their duties.

“Nurses need to always show humility towards patients, with God leading them every time,” she says.

She encouraged nurses to study and develop their skills.

“When you study, you become sure of what you are doing and patients have confidence in you,” she says.

International Nurses’ Day is celebrated every year on May 11, which is said to be Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

Nightingale is believed to be the founder of modern nursing.

A cake was only fitting to complete the celebration as nurses continued to sing and dance.
