Forty-two-year-old initiate dies at initiation school

Duduza - A 42-year-old man was found dead at an initiation school next to the water reservoir in Masechaba Extension 2 on Friday morning.

Duduza police spokesman, Sergeant Harry Manaka, says the deceased didn’t have any signs of a struggle on his body.

“He had received a clean bill of health from the doctor prior to enrolling in the school,” he says.

Manaka says they are also investigating the legality of the initiation school because it is suspected that it is not registered.

“We are working closely with the chiefs at the initiation schools to help us in closing down illegal initiation schools in the area.

“We are calling on parents and those who are interested in undergoing the passage to manhood to first ensure that the school is legally registered,” he says.

Manaka says the police have opened an inquest into the man’s death.
