Taxi accident leaves one dead

Tsakane - A female passenger died on Wednesday after the taxi she was riding in was involved in an accident on the R23 (Heidelberg Road).

EMPD spokesman Clifford Shongwe says the accident occurred at the same spot where a taxi overturned and killed five people last week Friday.

“It is alleged that both vehicles were from Tsakane, heading towards Carnival City, when the taxi driver decided to change lanes from the slow to the fast lane.

“Seven occupants in the taxi were thrown out of the vehicle. One female passenger died and others sustained serious injuries.

“The victims were rushed to neighbouring hospitals to receive medical attention,” he says.

Shongwe says the police are investigating the cause of the accident.

“We are calling on drivers to abide by the rules of the road at all times.

“Those found to break the rules will face the law,” he says.
