Family finds closure after man’s body found

KwaThema - The body of Klaas Makgathi (63), who went missing in August, has been recovered.

Klaas Makgathi was a carpenter and it is alleged that he was called to take measurements to install a ceiling but never returned home afterwards, and the family hadn’t heard from him since.

His widow, Cathy Makgathi, says that his body was found decomposed near Marikana informal settlement in November.

“He was then taken to the forensic department for them to run DNA tests to confirm whether indeed it was him or not.

“He was released on Friday and buried on Sunday,” she says. She says that she is relieved that her husband’s body has been found.

“It was a difficult period for the family not knowing what happened to him.

“We hoped each day that he would turn up or we would receive some news about his whereabouts.

“He is now resting in peace and we are now able to mourn his death properly,” she says.

Cathy says that she is grateful to the neighbours and relatives who helped her search for her missing husband.

“Their kindness and support helped us to get through the trying time,” she says.

Jabulani Mahlangu (49) says that they hope that the people responsible for his death will be brought to book.

“They must pay for what they did; my brother didn’t have enemies and got along with everyone.

“They killed him and left his body to decompose like that of an animal,” he says.

“We are calling on anyone with information about what happened to report it to the police,” he says.
