Campaign to collect matric dance evening dresses

KwaThema - The face of KwaThema second princess, Ayanda Ntuli, (18) started an initiative to help her peers in Grade 12 afford their matric dance.

She is collecting evening gowns, shoes and clutch bags for the less fortunate people in the area.

She says she decided to start the initiative after realising the amount of money she has to save towards affording her dream outfit for the occasion.

“I started thinking about some of the learners who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and cannot afford proper school uniforms.

“They are now stressing about this day and some would rather miss the night because they can’t afford it.

“I know that it is every learner’s dream to attend the dance so I decided to start the initiative, “she says.

Ayanda says she started by asking women in her family to donate and then decided to start collecting gowns, shoes and clutch bags.

“I am aiming to collect 25 dresses which will be donated to three learners per school for eight high schools in the area.

“We have so far collected 14 dresses, three pairs of shoes and a clutch bag,” she says.

Ayanda says she is calling to people in the area who have dresses which are gathering dust to please donate them.

“By donating they will help improve the self-esteem of a child in need and enable her to enjoy her last days of school.

“They no longer have to stress about the dance but focus on their studies,” she says.
