Good Samaritans help centre

Tsakane - Good Samaritans in Tsakane brought a smile to the faces of 34 children at Tsakane Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities.

On Tuesday the group donated educational toys, therapeutic tools, tables and chairs, a geyser, blankets and gardening tools to the centre.

The chairperson of the centre, Thami Mkhodwane, says they are grateful for the donations.

‘We are a new centre and still trying to make the environment conducive for the children.

“These donations are not going to benefit anyone but the children.

Thami says the centre was formed by a group of eight parents who have disabled children.

They were originally operating from a small shack.

“We decided to ask the government to use the old police building in the area.

“It was vandalised and neglected but they granted us the building,” he says.

Thami says they do not have any funding at the moment and depend on donations.

“Sometimes we are forced to dig into our pockets to afford to sustain the centre,” he says.

Thami says they are calling on business people to lend a helping hand to help keep the centre operational.

“We need transport to be able to transport the children from their homes to the centre daily.

“We need therapeutic equipment and more blankets now that winter is creeping in,” he says.

Thami says they are inviting parents with children with disability to enrol them in the centre.

“They should not be locked away behind closed doors, away from the outside world.

“We have a home where they will be stimulated and all their needs will be met,” he says.
