Botswana tremor felt in Kwatsaduza

Kwatsaduza - An earth tremor on Monday in parts of Ekurhuleni has left many in fear for their lives.

Scientific reports indicate that a magnitude 6.5 quake struck north of Gaborone in Botswana at a depth of 35km.

The earthquake in Botswana occurred in a region of southern Africa that has historically had a low level of earthquake activity.

A resident of Tsakane, Maria Shabangu, says she was watching TV when she felt her couch shaking.

“Initially I thought that there was something under the couch but before long I felt the windows shaking too.

“I couldn’t sleep at night because I feared for my family’s lives,” she says.

Another citizen from KwaThema, Sanah Nkosi, says that her children were scared of what was happening.

“They asked me what was going on but I could not explain to them until I saw it on the news.

“I prayed that it would not damage my shack because I don’t have anywhere else to go.
