Band to keep children busy

Tsakani - Ditima mollo tsa lehodimo band entertains the residents of Tsakane during special occasions.

The band was formed in 2014 by Sanah Shabalala to remove the youth in her community from the streets.

She says they realised many young people were addicted to drugs, taking part in criminal activities and falling pregnant at a young age.

“This is because they have a lot of time in their hands after school and on holidays.

“I decided to buy the instruments with my savings towards making the initiative a success, “she says.

Sanah invited some of the children in her church and the community.

“We started with hymns and slowly graduated to modern songs which they enjoyed.

“This was to keep them interested and have fun,” she says.

She says the group is made up of 20 people and they are looking to expand it.
