Drug-fighting campaign held at Laban Mothlabi

KwaThema - Various schools in the area attended a drug-fighting campaign held at Laban Mothlabi Secondary School on Thursday March 16.

The campaign was organised by the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) in partnership with different NGOs in the area.

LDAC chairperson Thabang Xaba says that they decided to joined forces with other institutions to run an awareness campaign to help fight drugs in schools.

“The campaign is aimed to provide services and monitor after-care on all substance abuse programmes.

“We have decided to take a radical approach in dealing with the scourge of drugs in the communities.

“We are working tirelessly in fighting against drug trafficking, supply and harm, and for demand reduction,” he says.

Thabo says they also decided to involve the users of substances from the different high schools to help find the root causes of their problem and come up with solutions, in order to reduce the number of people addicted.

“We are happy that the participants were able to share, and listened to different experiences and challenges with drugs.

“The learners committed to be the agents of change,” he says.

Thabang says that there is no excuse not to find help because there so many resources at one’s disposal in the community.

“There is no need for anyone to throw their future away to drugs because they feel that they don’t have a future.

“Take all the opportunities at your disposal and build something out of them,” he says.

Thabang encouraged those who are ready to kick the addiction to contact him.

“We host Women Explosion every Thursdays from 2pm till 4pm at the KwaThema Council Chamber.

“On Friday we host inspirational seminars from 4pm till 5:30pm at KwaThema Central Methodist Church.

“We also have support groups that are on Fridays at the skills centre at 4pm and on Tuesdays with SANCA at the Old CCC Building,“ he says.
