Thema hijacks increase

KwaThema – Local police are concerned about the increasing number of hijackings in the area.

This comes after a 31-year-old man was hijacked in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to the police, the complainant was driving his vehicle home when the incident occurred.

“When the man reached the intersection at Ramothibe and Kgaswane streets, while waiting for his turn to cross he noticed his vehicle door open.

“A man with a firearm then pointed at him with it and instructed the driver to get out of the vehicle,” says KwaThema spokesman Captain Thabo Sibuyi.

Shaken by this, the driver did as he was told, and then another man who was waiting outside took him to the rear side of the vehicle.

“The driver was told to get in the boot of the vehicle and the men drove off with him.

“The new driver stopped after some time and the man in the boot was able to get out. He ran away and went to call for help.”

Sibuyi adds that the men allegedly fled in the stolen blue Peugeot 207.
