Hijackers vanish in the dark

KwaThema – Police are investigating the hijacking of a man (32) which occurred on Saturday evening.

The complainant was driving his charcoal black BMW three-series vehicle and stopped at the robot on Thema and Habedi streets.

KwaThema police spokesman Captain Thabo Sibuyi says that, while he was waiting for the green light, an unknown man allegedly went to his vehicle and opened the passenger door.

“While he was startled by this, the man pointed a firearm at him and then another man went to the driver’s side, also with his firearm.

“Shortly after this a third man made his way to the scene and opened another door of the vehicle.

“The trio got inside the car and ordered the driver to drive until Memeza Street in Duduza, where he was ordered to stop,” he says.

Sibuyi says that the driver was then tied to a tree with shoe-laces while they searched his car.

“They took his driver’s licence and cellphone, along with R17 000, which was in the boot.

“They drove off in the vehicle and the victim was later able to free himself,” he says.

Sinuyi says that the police are urging motorists to be cautious, especially when driving alone at night.

“They must look out for any suspicious characters where they are traveling.
