Dan urges residents not to litter

KwaThema - Dan Tshabalala (48) is calling on residents to refrain from littering and burning recyclable materials.

Dan runs a recyclable material business in his neighbourhood and says he started the business eight years ago after he lost his job.

“I could not find a job for months and had a family that depended on me for survival.

“A friend told me about a money-making opportunity in recycling plastic and glass bottles.

“I decided to take it up since I didn’t have any other options,” he says.

Dan says that every morning he goes to dumping sites where he collects materials.

“I also receive some materials from tavern owners and residents who believe in recycling, “he says.

He says he is proud that he has been able to employed two people since he opened the business.

“I know how hard it is to be unable to find a job and be desperate.

“I would like to grow the business bigger to be able to absorb more unemployed people,” he says.

Dan says he is encouraging people in the community to refrain from littering.

“Throwing papers and bottles in the open or illegal dumping sites is a danger to the environment and untidy.

“It shows we don’t love a clean environment.

“Through my small initiative we are able to keep the community clean,” he says.

Dan urged residents to have different bins for papers, bottles and plastic this would make it easy for him to separate them from the rubbish.

“We will come and collect them free of charge,” he says.
