Miss SA finalists visit orphanage

KwaThema - The Miss SA 2017 Top 12 finalists visited the Lethukukhanya Care Centre to share love with the children.

They handed out gifts and treats to the young children, who were thrilled with the surprise visit after school.

The centre is home to seven resident children and also helps 50 outreach children from Langaville.

The centre’s project manager Simphiwe Mnisi says they are happy the finalists chose their centre.

“Their visit has helped in motivating the children and boosting their morale.

“They now believe that they too can make it big regardless of their backgrounds,” she says.

Simphiwe says the children are from vulnerable households, abused and waiting to be placed in places of safety.

“The property can accommodate 40 children, but because of the lack of funds and in-house social workers, they can only house the seven children.

“We are calling on business people, government and the private sector to assist with funding to enable us to open our doors to more children,” she says.

Miss SA 2017 will culminate in the crowning event at the newly upgraded Sun City on Sunday, March 26.

Terry Webb from The Mail Room says the visit to the centre was for the finalists to interact with the children and spread some love.
