Liso to compete in provincial championships

KwaThema - Young Liso Gomba (12) from Payneville Primary will be representing Ekurhuleni in the Provincial Primary School Athletics Championships.

The championships will be held from March 3 to 4 at Pilditch Stadium.

She will be competing in the 100m and 150m races.

School sports co-ordinator Sophie Mnisi says that Liso started running competitively last year.

“Last year she represented the school up until the district competition before she was knocked out,” she says.

Sophie says that this year Liso competed in the KwaThema Inter-school competitions at Brakpan Stadium, where she received position one in the 100m and 150m races.

“She graduated to the second phase in the Springs Inter-school competition, where she qualified for the district championships.

“She received position two in the district race held at John Vorster Stadium in Nigel and qualified for the provincial championships,” she says.

Sophie says the school is very happy that Liso will be representing Ekurhuleni in the championships.

“We are hoping that she will graduate to the next leg of the competition.

“She will be able to represent the province in the national championship,” she says.
