Awarding matric top achievers

Tsakane – The Zamokuhle Youth Career Centre (ZYCC) hosted its annual Tsakane Matric Awards for the class of 2016.

The event took place at the Ekurhuleni World Outreach Centre (CWC) in Extension Five recently.

Among the prominent guests were the MMC of Human Settlements in Ekurhuleni, Clr Lesiba Mpya, councillors of Tsakane, and Gauteng Department of Education (East District) representative, Stephina Modisane.

Chairman of the ZYCC, Zamokuhle Mabena, explains that the ceremony was held in partnership with the Mzwakhe Ngomane Leadership Institute, Thamandla Construction and Tsakane local councillors.

The awards are aimed at making sure that more learners have access to higher education after matric, and at limiting the number of gap years in the township.

“ZYCC has seen the importance for matric awards to be recognised at a local level, to acknowledge those learners who performed very well in their matric year, so that they can be motivated as they go on to tertiary institutions.

“It is also to encourage quality education in township schools, which is why we give awards to Tsakane’s top 10 overall achievers, top 10 learners per subject and the top performing teachers per subject.

“We hope that these awards will continue to have a positive impact, as some school have also adopted this initiative to encourage their own learners,” he says.
