Robber disarmed in Duduza

Duduza - A robber was unexpectedly disarmed in Duduza when he and his accomplices tried to rob a group of friends.

The incident occurred on Friday, as a group of friends were sitting in a house, having fun at about 9pm.

The friends alleged that an unknown man knocked on the door and asked for directions.

“A few minutes later that same man returned with three accomplices. They pointed a firearm at the group and demanded cash and cellphones.

“Little did they know that one of the locals they were attempting to rob had a plan of his own.

“As the robbers approached the friends, one of them grabbed the hand of the robber with the firearm. One shot went off,” explains police spokesman Sgt Harry Manaka.

The robbers then fled the scene on foot, leaving the firearm behind. It was recovered and handed over to the Duduza police.

Manaka says police are urging the community not to confront any person attempting to rob them, especially when the person has a dangerous weapon such as a firearm.

“That shot that went off could have been fatal.

“The actions of this man who fought off the robber, however, saved them from the culprits, and with the descriptions given, police are able to proceed with the investigation,” he says.

Duduza police are investigating a case of house robbery.
