Don’t park on streets at night, warn police

Police continue to warn motorists not to park their vehicles on the streets at night.

This follows another hijacking that took place at about 21.55pm last Thursday, in Willem Street in the Gugulethu Section.

“While the complainant (27) was sitting in his car with his girlfriend, three unknown men appeared.

“All three were allegedly armed with firearms, which they pointed at the couple. They opened the doors and instructed the two to move to the back seat,” says Sibuyi.

The trio entered the vehicle and drove off with couple. They took the complainant’s two bank cards and demanded the PINs.

Thereafter they withdrew a total of R900 from both cards, drove off with the couple and dumped them in the Leondale area.

“Fortunately the unharmed couple managed to walk to a nearby garage to ask for help.

“We continue to plead with motorists to avoid parking on pavements or on the streets late at night or in the early hours of the morning.

“This makes them easy targets for criminals,” warns Sibuyi.

The stolen vehicle is a white VW Polo with registration number FR 24 NF GP.

No arrests have been made, but police are investigating a case of hijacking.
