Learners from the Masimini and the KwaThema primary Schools were the lucky recipients on Tuesday morning.
According to the Gauteng Department of Social Development, this donation is part of the Gauteng provincial government’s school readiness programme.

Present at the handover was the department’s MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, along with community leaders, government officials and parents.
Mayathula-Khoza handed out 100 uniforms and dignity packs at each of the schools.
“The uniforms and dignity packs are aimed at assisting those children who come from deprived families.
“It is also to encourage these children so that they may become whatever it is they want to be in life,” she says.
She further encouraged parents to be more involved in the education of their children so that they can do better in their schoolwork.
One parent whose children benefited from this programme is Smangele Mlanzi.

She says, “As a mother of two, school uniforms tend to be very expensive. The social grant money is not enough to cover the cost.
“I am therefore very grateful to the Gauteng government for caring for our needy learners, because now they can also look neat like other children,” says Mlanzi.
