ANC leadership visits poor performing school

KwaThema - As part of the City's Back-to-School Campaign, the Ekurhuleni ANC Chief Whip Jongizizwe Dlabathi, accompanied by Member of Parliament Mondli Gungubele, visited Tlakula Secondary School.

Dlabathi addressed the learners and met with school management, as this was one of the schools that performed poorly in the recent matric exams.

The KwaThema school only achieved a 58.9% pass rate, as compared with the previous year’s pass rate of 72.44%.

Dlabathi emphasises that it’s important for all the schools that performed poorly in the recent matric exams, to get all the necessary support to improve their performance this coming year.

On the other hand, he congratulates Zimisele Secondary School for scoring an almost 100% pass rate.

The school achieved a 97.5% pass rate, followed by JE Malepe Secondary School’s 92.7% pass rate.

He congratulated the entire class of 2016, teachers and parents for the work they put into ensuring that the results improve annually.

“This goes to show how township schools can produce, if they are well supported.

“We further congratulate Thembinkosi Johannes Manyeruke (17) from Tsakane Secondary School, on his outstanding performance.

“With such outstanding results from a township school learner, the future of our country and City of Ekurhuleni certainly is promising,” says Dlabathi.

He adds that the City of Ekurhuleni municipality has always prioritised education. This is evident in the current administration committing a budget of R100 million, to assist deserving learners to further their studies.

The Chief Whip will also be meeting with the co-ordinators of the academies of mathematics, accounting, science and art in KwaThema.

The purpose of the meeting, is to establish possible partnerships and interventions to assist schools and learners in the Ekurhuleni region.

As part of a learner empowerment programme, he pledges to help with the enrolment for learners at Ntsane Masiloane School Enrichment Programme, to support them in mathematics, physical science and accounting.
