Husband arrested for shooting wife

KwaThema - A husband (43) was arrested last Saturday after shooting his wife (40) in the thigh.

According to KwaThema police, they received a complaint from an unknown source about an incident of domestic violence in Extension Two.

“When police arrived at the address at about 01.20am, they found the gates locked, however there was a light on in the house.

“Officers were forced to jump the fence and knocked on the doors and windows until a woman responded saying they should leave as all was in order,” says Captain Thabo Sibuyi.

After the officers had left, they received another phone call about the same problem at the same location.

“They returned to the house and found the kitchen door open and the security gate locked.

“The husband allegedly refused to open the door as his wife stood next to him.

“Moments later, police saw the woman throw the security gate key to them and when the husband saw this, he started firing shots at the officers and they shot back.”

The husband allegedly then shot his wife in the right thigh after which his firearm jammed and he surrendered himself to the police.

He was arrested for attempted murder and the firearm was confiscated.

His wife was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and was reported to be in a stable condition.
