Increase your vehicle’s security

As hijacking numbers have kept increasing around Kwatsaduza and Springs over the year, there's no doubt that criminals will keep vehicle owners on their toes even during the holiday season.

So to enjoy your holidays with less worry, beef up on your vehicle’s security or make sure you park in safe areas while celebrating.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora advises drivers to follow these safety tips:

• Don’t leave your car parked outside your property, unless you’re monitoring it.

• Have an alarm system or tracker.

• Always keep the vehicle locked.

• Ensure that your spare car keys are locked away in a safe place.

• Have lock nuts on your wheels.

• Put all your valuables and firearm in a lockable safe.

• Keep your car inside a locked garage.

• Lock valuables such as handbags and laptops in the boot when traveling, as leaving them in plain sight will attract criminals.

If a company says they will come and install something for you, or provide you with a service, check the information of the company out first – so you don’t become a victim of crime.
