Keep your home safe over holiday season

If you'll be away during these holidays, make sure that your home is kept safe.

KwaThema police spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi, says that it’s very important for residents not to leave their homes unattended while on holiday.

“If you’re going on holiday, please ask someone you can trust to look after your house.

“The person looking after your house should also know not to allow access to strangers or people claiming to come and work in your home, without your instruction,” he says.

He adds that you can also ask a neighbour to look out for any suspicious activities, taking place around or on your property.

In addition don’t leave the lights on for the whole day, or the post at the gate, as that attracts criminals.

“If you have one, inform your security company when you will be away, so they can keep an eye on your house.

“Don’t leave tools outside or anything that can be used by criminals, to break into your home or cause danger to you,” he says.

Before you set off on your journey, make sure that all your windows, doors and gates are properly closed or locked.
