Uncle arrested for alleged abuse of nephew

Tsakane – A man (30) was arrested for child abuse and assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, to his nephew (12).

This comes after an incident which occurred last Sunday at about 8am.

According to the police’s Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, the suspect was arrested for the alleged child abuse and assault of the minor, after the police were called out for a domestic violence matter.

“On arrival at the given address, the police found that the security door was locked while the main door was open.

“While busy knocking at the door, they heard the screaming of a child coming from the house and then realised that there was a man, who was pressing the child down.

“Officers asked the man to open the door, but he told them his girlfriend wasn’t home and she had taken the key with her. So, police tried to forcefully open the door but couldn’t,” she explains.

Mngomezulu says the police continued to talk some sense into the man, until he took the keys out of his pocket. He opened the door, then the child came out of the house with some injuries on his neck.

“The boy told the police that his uncle wanted to kill him with a knife.

“The child alleged that his uncle had tried to cut his throat with a knife, but he managed to grab it, kicked his uncle and then threw the knives out of the window.

“Two knifes were found outside, next to the bedroom window.

“When police attempted to arrest the man, he resisted until police were assisted by two prison warders – who came to do a routine parole visit for the uncle,” she says.

The suspect appeared in Tsakane Magistrates Court on Monday; and the case was remanded for further investigation, while he remains in police custody.
