A new place to call home for Gogo Thanyane

Duduza – Gogo Elisabeth Thanyane is ecstatic to be back in the comfort of her own home.

This comes after the MMC for Human Settlement Clr Lesiba Mpya handed the pensioner a set of keys to her newly rebuilt house.

Gogo Thanyane’s original house was destroyed in a powerful storm in October.

That was the last time she stayed in it until last Thursday at the official handover of her new house.

Metro spokesman, Themba Gadebe explains that the fixing of the old woman’s house was done through a partnership of the City of Ekurhuleni and the Maziya Contractors.

These two partners opted to demolish the original home and rebuild it.

“The private-public sector partnerships are key in responding to situations such as this one because this is a family home.

“And most of us know what it means to live in such homes as we were also raised by our grandparents.

“This house will therefore be home to many of her grandchildren.

“We are thus very happy as we have been able to restore Gogo Thanyane’s dignity in her time of need,” says Mpya.
