Commemorating World Aids Day

KwaThema – Making it Count Youth Development commemorated World Aids Day recently.

And the purpose of the event was to remember all who are infected and affected by the HIV/Aids pandemic.

“This is our way of remembering and supporting all who are living with this disease and we work a lot with the community.

“Our organisation also deals with young people and what concerns us the most, is that some of them seem to be ignorant when it comes to the issue.

“Some of them think that this does not affect them while others don’t think testing is that important,” says office administrator Nthabiseng Leburu.

She adds that through their research, they have also discovered that some people who are living with the disease are still afraid of stigma hence they don’t disclose their status.

“Our communities need to unite in this fight as some blessers and sugar mamas are the ones who are infecting our young people.

“So more education needs to be given to the youth and ways of alleviating poverty as it also plays a huge role,” says project coordinator Ntombi Nodunyelwa.
