Creating ways of alleviating poverty

KwaThema - A co-operative workshop was conducted at the KwaThema Skills Centre recently.

Present to assist the women were social auxiliary worker for women and children, Dudu Mgidi and facilitator Valentine Molefe, among other stakeholders.

The women were educated and helped with information on how to start their own co-operatives, to alleviate poverty.

“As the Interchange Community Foundation Hub (ICDH) we consider it important to empower women in the community, as some are unemployed while they are still breadwinners in their homes.

“We then came up with this project to help them register and start co-operatives, so they can develop economically and they can be independent.

“This is also an opportunity to salute women who’ve struggled with unemployment and inequality,” says Freda Kaise of ICDH.

Another member of ICDH, Thokozile Mabena, adds that it’s so important for them to interact with these women, so they can share their stories.

Furthermore, it’s a priority to show support and love to those who’ve been retrenched from their workplaces – and to try to create jobs opportunities for them, as most are skilled and passionate women.
