Zamani introduces prefects to boost youth leadership

KwaThema – The Zamani Primary School held their Annual Awards Ceremony at the school last Friday.

School principal Selby Nkosi shares his review that throughout the year, the school has taken part in different activities organised by the District; when learners and teachers represented the school very well.

“The purpose of awarding academic excellence, extra mural activities and co-curricular activities, was therefore to acknowledge and honour the learners for their hard work.

“It was also to show them that hard work does indeed pay off,” he says.

In Foundation Phase, Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase, certificates of achievements were awarded to learners who’d achieved the highest mark in each subject.

Medals were also awarded to the top learners who’d achieved the highest overall aggregate in each grade.

Further special awards were given to learners who’d performed outstandingly in extra mural or co-curricular activities.

Nkosi says on behalf of the staff, they congratulate Lindokuhle Mahlangu, who was the top learner in Grade 7 – as she received certificates in English, Social Sciences, Economic Management Sciences and Natural Sciences.

In addition, they congratulate next year’s Grade Seven leadership which is as follows: Headboy – Sakhile Putswana; Headgirl – Amahle Mbatha; Deputy Headboy – Siyabonga Sithole and Deputy Headgirl – Sphiwe Masondo.

Prefects are: Manqoba Phore, Lebogang Shabangu, Pabalello Mngomezulu, Nkosinathi Mnguni, Sanelisiwe Molala, Noluthando Mnisi, Lebone Moloi, Zanele Mlambo, Nondumiso Daile, Ramonyatsi Qalo, Yolisa Ndlovu and Noluthando Mhlanga.

Nkosi explains that the reason why they’ve chosen to have prefects for the first time at the school, is to assist teachers in maintaining order in the school, by using peer guidance.

Furthermore, prefects can be role models in activating leadership skills amongst fellow learners.

“My heartfelt gratitude to all parents who were involved with the school’s activities; making sure that their children enjoyed what is offered by the school.

“With the end of the year ahead of us, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all who were connected with Zamani Primary School, a well deserved break,” he concluded.
