14 people in hospital due to an accident in KwaThema

KwaThema - Fourteen people were injured when a SAPS vehicle and a taxi collided on the corner of Springs West and Thema roads on Saturday.

Two constables, Phumla Nkosi and Neo Ralesenyao, were taking a suspect to the Far East Rand Hospital at 2.30pm, after they arrested him on Saturday morning for drunken driving.

According to Capt Thabo Sibuye they needed to have blood drawn from the suspect to check his alcohol level.

The two policemen, suspect and 11 people from the taxi sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

“The suspect is under police guard at a hospital and will be taken into custody as soon as he is discharged,” says Sibuye.

The seriousness of their injuries is not yet known.

Sibuye says more information will be given as soon as it is available.
