Bakers ready for business

KwaThema – After a five day course, four bakers are ready for the business world.

This comes after Simangele Dlamini, Danny Steyn, Nomfanelo Nkosi and Japhtaline Radinne completed their course at a bakery in a KwaThema bakery, providing them with the much needed skills.

Co-founder of the Okuhle Bakery in Rest in Peace, Pearl Sampo (43) explains that the bakery opened its doors in February.

They, however, saw it as important to help other unemployed people and those interested in baking by teaching them the skills so they too can start their own businesses.

“These classes were started early this month and the main reason was to help people to start their own businesses and for them to have skills to make a living.

“We came up with three classes which include a bakery course for five days, confectionery course for five days and a decoration course for one day.

“This was the first group to take part in the bakery course and they were very happy to complete their bakery lessons,” she says.

Steyn, who was one of the students who was able to complete the classes, says he enjoyed the experience.

“The lessons were fun and were made very easy for us.

“It also gave us an opportunity to be creative and I enjoyed baking bread, cakes and things like making icing practically,” he says.
