SAPS woman faces charges of murder and attempted murder

The Springs policewoman who allegedly fed her two children rat poison mixed with yoghurt was in court on Friday.

The accused will appear in Springs Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).

According to KwaThema police spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi they arrested the woman at a house in Tsakane on Thursday and took her to the KwaThema police cells.

The accused remained at the police cells overnight and was taken to the Springs Magistrate’s Court this morning where she is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

“She allegedly poisoned her two sons, aged 10 months old and four years by allegedly feeding them rat poison mixed with yoghurt,” says Sibuyi.

The incident allegedly took place at her house in KwaThema on September 1.

The 10-month-old baby died on his way to hospital, but the toddler survived and is still in hospital in a stable condition.

“The mother also allegedly poisoned herself and ended up in hospital, but was discharged on September 8,” says Sibuyi.

The accused was not arrested after she was discharged.

According to Sibuyi the accused was traumatised but gave no particular reason for her actions.
