Man discovered in open veld

KwaThema – The local police are asking for the help of the community, regarding any information that might help them solve the murder of Mduduzi Sangweni (30).

This comes after the young man was discovered by a passerby in an open veld, between Rest in Peace and Extension Two, on Monday, at about 7.50am.

“The victim was found lying on the street with multiple injuries, by a passerby who alerted the police and called for an ambulance,” says police spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi.

“Sangweni was still alive at the time and was taken to the Pholosong Hospital for medical treatment.

“We opened a skeleton docket, as we could not get a statement from the victim, as he was in a critical condition.”

Sibuyi adds that, as the police started to investigate a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, the hospital later called to inform them that Sangweni had died and the case was changed to a murder investigation.

“The deceased had open wounds to his forehead and the back of his head; he had a swollen face, broken right leg and could not talk,” he says.

“At this stage, the only information we have from the family is that the victim was at home with a friend the previous night and that they had left in a car to Extension Three.

“It is, however, unclear what happened after that or how Sangweni was injured,.”

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information that can help the police can contact the KwaThema detectives on 011 812 4600.
