Criminals shoot elderly couple

Duduza - In the early hours of Monday morning, an old couple (63 and 70) were shot, assaulted and robbed.

The incident took place at about 3am at the couple’s home in Masechaba Extension Two.

According to the police, the couple was sleeping when the woman (70) was woken up by a noise.

“When the woman went to the kitchen, she found two unknown men inside the house and noticed the kitchen door had been forced open.

“The suspects pointed a firearm at her and demanded money, but when she told them she didn’t have any, the men allegedly shot her in her left leg.

“After that, they hit her with an object on her left eye but she managed to escape through the front door to call for help, leaving the duo inside,” says police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora.

Some of the neighbours and the complainant returned to the couple’s home, but the suspects had already fled the scene.

The woman realised her husband had also been shot, in his right leg, and his left eye had been injured. The woman’s cellphone had been taken.

The couple was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

No arrests have been made.
