Children benefit on Mandela Day

Tsakane – The city manager’s office staff gathered at a children's shelter in Tsakane Ext 19 on Mandela Day.

The reason for the visit was to spend time and donate to orphans and vulnerable children and children with disabilities,

The staff donated clothing, and money to buy food, toiletries and cleaning essentials to assist the home.

“This has become an annual initiative for us, hence this year, we found this home and decided to give back to them.

“This also forms part of our 67 minutes for Mandela Day and was made possible by our staff members.

“Through this we are showing we value our heroes, like the founder of this place Precious-Pearl Maboa, who for over 10 years has given of her time to assist these children in need,” says city manager Khaya Ngema.

He adds there are a lot of heroes like Maboa in the community who are not recognised for the good work they do, hence this was their way of giving back.

Maboa says she started the home because of her love for children. She wanted them to be treated as equals in the community.

She thanks the staff of Ekurhuleni for their visit and the donation they made, which will help the team and mostly importantly, improve the lives of the children.
