At about 11.15pm the woman was on her way home from a tavern when a suspect came running from behind her.
“The man approached her, greeted and asked to accompany her.
“As she told him she had reached her destination, he threatened her with a firearm, pulled her to his room and locked her inside.
“The woman managed to escape. However, the suspect and a group of friends managed to catch her, took her back and the accused allegedly raped her in front of them,” says police spokesman W/O David Mphali.
The suspect was arrested on Monday morning at around 7.25am through information gathered during an investigation.
The toy gun suspected to be the one he had used the previous night was also found in his room.
The suspect will soon appear at the Springs Regional Court.
