School gets refurbished for Mandela Day

Duduza – The staff of Coca-Cola South Africa Beverage Nigel got their hands dirty refurbishing Zakheni Primary School in honour of Mandela Day last Friday.

Last year the company re-plastered verandas, installed five down pipes, replaced broken windows and painted window panels.

This year they were back to continue the work they started last year and renovate the ablution system at the school.

Distribution manager, Ntokozo Zwane (32) says they chose non-paying schools in the community to help, as most of the learners are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“It is imperative for us to invest in young minds. Primary school is where they get their foundation so it’s our responsibility as a community to ensure a safe and enthusiastic schooling environment for learners,” she says.

She further says the school has strong ties with the company as most staff are former students and now their own children are attending the school.

“It’s an emotional journey for most of the employees as they look back and try and refurbish the school that gave them their foundation.

“Going forward we will be maintaining the netball courts and soccer fields,” she adds.

School principal, Paulus Mnguni says he is very pleased to see the company giving back and for former students who are now employed at the company making sure that the current learner are benefiting.

“I’m really happy about the work done at the school and hope the partnership continues going forward,” says the principal.
