Chilwane gets 15 years behind bars

Duduza - The 54-year-old Mphikeleli Shadrack Chilwane was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder.

This comes after an incident which occurred on August 31, when Chilwane stabbed a 48-year-old woman twice in her upper body, resulting in her death shortly afterwards.

The victim was able to make her way to Duduza Police Station where she was attended to and then taken for medical treatment to the Pholosong Hospital, where she later died.

A case of murder was registered and through investigation, Chilwane was arrested and detained on September 7.

The matter was placed before the Nigel Magistrate’s Court, and on July 7 the trial was concluded.

Chilwane was found guilty on the charge of murder and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, only eligible for parole after serving 10 years imprisonment.

The court also declared Chilwane unfit to possess a firearm.

The acting station commander of the Duduza Police Station, Capt Mackson Nyaku, praised W/O Billy Mabilane for his professional and thorough investigation which resulted in this success.

He said this success should serve as a warning to would-be criminals, that they will be apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Nyaku adds that this conviction is in line with the national and provincial strategies of the South African Police Services.
