A dialogue for change

KwaThema – The KwaThema Customer Care Centre met with the KwaThema Early Childhood Centres (ECD) Forum on Tuesday to discuss issues facing local crèches and pre-schools in the community.

It was the very first time for both parties to engage in a dialogue to introduce each other and establish a relationship going forward.

Present at the meeting was the CCC manager, Andries Nkabinde, who explained the importance of the forum and them as the Ekurhuleni Metro to have a robust relationship to ensure they receive the support from the relevant departments.

The floor was opened for practitioners to raise concerns they are faced with as ECDs in the community.

Registration and compliance issues were the most prominent.

The forum highlighted that there is so much red tape and money required for them to get the necessary documentation which can allow them to access funding and sites to develop their centres.

“We have a problem with rodents due to illegal dumping and a clean environment is important for children. Waste removers have refused to take our dustbins because of they have too many diapers and there are substance abusers who root around ECD centres which is not safe for children,” said Ntombi Ndala, a pre-school owner.

The forum also mentioned that it is a hassle for them to access Metro facilities such as stadiums, parks and halls because they have to pay exorbitant amounts to make us of them.

“I will take the grievances to the necessary departments and we will hold another meeting in the next two weeks so that questions are answered and we can work towards a safer and healthier environment for all children in the community,” said Nkabinde.
