Hitchhiker shot five times in vehicle, driver crashes into KwaThema house

KwaThema - A 36-year-old man from Brakpan was found shot inside a vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to police spokesman W/O David Mphali, the complainant was on Lenchville Road heading to Brakpan Station.

Due to a lack of taxis, he hitchhiked and was given a lift by two unknown men in a green Nissan.

“Shortly after that, two other hitchhikers climbed into the car and the complainant was ordered to sit in the middle between the two other hitchhikers.

“As they made conversation, the duo at the back told the complainant he had climbed into the wrong car and one allegedly hit him in the face while the driver of the car took out a firearm and handed it to the suspect in the passenger seat,” said Mphali.

After having passed his drop-off point, the complainant was allegedly tied up, assaulted and shot in the leg numerous times.

“The victim was able to untie himself, distracted the speeding driver who then drove into a wall of a house in KwaThema and all the suspects fled the scene.

“The complainant was shot five times in his left leg, hence the police and an ambulance were called and he was then taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” he added.

A case of kidnapping and attempted murder was opened at the KwaThema police station.
