Uniform contest in KwaThema

KwaThema – Makgotso Moloi (15) and Moland Sibane (15) were crowned Miss and Mr Best Uniform in a recent competition.

The contest was made possible by Black Fusion Modelling and Entertainment Agency which runs the competition for all secondary schools in KwaThema.

Secondary school learners were invited to participate and wear their full school uniform so judges would chose which looked the best.

Co-founder of the modelling agency, Lefa Ntuli, says the competition was an initiative that they started back in 2011, so learners from local schools could take pride in their school uniform and also keep busy with positive activities and keep away from crime and substance abuse.

“We also sought to teach the youth basic modelling skills for those who are interested in the industry,” he said.

Moloi, who is a Grade 10 learner at Phulong Secondary School, said she entered the competition because she liked the concept of encouraging learners to wear their full school uniform as some learners don’t normally wear their school uniform even though they have it.

“Your school uniform is also a form of identity and learners should wear it with pride and dignity,” she said.

Sibane, a learner from Kenneth Masikela Secondary School, said he was shocked and nearly in tears when the judges called his name as the winner of the male category.

“The competition was tight and I’m pleased to have the honour to be crowned Mr Best Uniform; it’s a great way to represent myself as a young person to my fellow learners and community,” he added.

The two winners walked away with bursaries which they will access after completing their matric year, perfume hampers and hair equipment.
