School donates to seniors

KwaThema – Learners from the Zithembeni Primary School donated items of clothing to the KwaThema Old Age Home seniors on Wednesday.

In addition to this, the young people spent some time entertaining the pensioners, which filled their hearts with joy as they felt loved and appreciated.

Centre manager Monica Kgoloane said they were very happy to have been approached by the school and for the donation.

“In our societies, our young people need the elderly and the elderly also need the young, therefore it was a fun experience having both age groups come together.

“We have 180 pensioners ranging from the age of 60 to 92, who come to the centre daily to exercise, participate in golden games, indoor games, hand work, gardening, devotions, prayers and music and afterwards they return to their homes.

“Therefore through them coming through our doors daily, we believed it helps in keeping them healthy, active and safe during the day while the people they live with are at school or work,” Kgoloane said.

She added that all they are in need of is beads, material, wool, crochet needles and machines as their old people have the skills to use these items.

They also need people or stores who can assist with any form of food donation as these seniors spend five days a week at the centre, which means they need to be fed while there.
