Business hub for KwaThema

KwaThema - If you have driven or walked past Kgaswane Street, in Extension Three, and have wondered what the fencing being erected is all about, then wonder no more.

According to ward councillor Wilson Busakwe, an Ekurhuleni business hub is being created on this space.

Busakwe explains that at the inception of the idea, in 2000, the project was known as the Zonke Mutli Purpose Project, however, when the contract lapsed in 2009, the project was taken over by the Ekurhuleni Metro.

“Right now we have people erecting the fence as part of phase one of the project. This is being done by the Department of Economic Development.

“City Planning will then start with phase two which will continue with fencing the other side, guard house and actual structure,” he says.

Busakwe says there will be future meetings with the community and stakeholders regarding phase two of the process.

The business hub will cater for different departments and businesses in this area, however it is unclear at this stage when the project is set to be completed.

“What is most exciting about this initiative is that we have 12 local people working on the first phase of the project.

“The community is thrilled that the project has finally kicked off as they have been waiting for this for a while,” he says.

Jabu ‘Blush’ Msiza, one of the locals working on the project, says he is happy and grateful to have been given the opportunity to work as this makes it possible for him to put food on the table for his family.
