CHANCE opens its doors

Dunnottar - CHANCE Orphanage held an open day on Thursday to expose donors and potential donors to the current state of the home and the facilities needed to better it.

Since it was Youth Day the management saw fit to celebrate the day with a launch that aims to bring about change in the lives of the children living there.

The event kicked off with invited guests addressing donors about the importance of donating to such charities to assist the government.

Regional director of social development, Phumla Nkosi explained how NPOs cannot survive only by government grants, but also need private entities and community members to get involved to help assure these children have all their needs met.

“The government issues a sum of R2 million to an NPO which is equivalent to R15 per day, per child which is impossible to meet their daily needs,” she said.

It was communities’ social responsibility to contribute so they may give these children in places of safety a fair chance in life, she said.

The keynote address was delivered by the chairman of the board, Adv Phillip Mokoena, who also reiterated the importance of investing in the education of these children as that would ensure they have a bright future ahead of them.

Guest were spoilt to musical dance from the children at the home and performances from Duduza Sweet Melodious Voices.
