A fight against substance abuse

Duduza - To commemorate Youth Day on Thursday, His Word Ministries, together with the Duduzekani Tshidisehang Community Project (DTCP) and other stakeholders, marched against substance abuse.

After the march, the organisations handed over blankets and bread to the less privileged community members.

The aim of the march was to get the community and the youth of Duduza to stand together in the fight against nyaope, which is rife in the community.

His Word Ministries, which opens its doors every Monday to Thursday to serve soup to 240 nyaope addicts, underprivileged community members and learners, saw the need to involve the entire community to try and curb the rise of substance abuse and help those who have fallen victim to the drug.

Katiso Rantlha, founder of DTCP, says they have been working closely with the church as it has nyaope addicts who frequent the church for meals and those are the people they sought to mentor and restore hope in their lives.

“We are fortunate that we have the Department of Health coming on board to consult and rehabilitate the substance abusers.

“Gradually there has been change, even though more still needs to be attained through the involvement of the parents and community at large,” says Rantlha.
