New streets in Extension Four

KwaThema – Five gravel roads in Extension Four, in KwaThema, are under construction and will soon be tarred.

Residents of Mphahlela, Masango Fakude, Dzai and Mabelane streets can expect to walk on tarred roads by next month.

According to Thabang Monyebudi, site agent, they have tarred 340 meters of gravel road since the beginning of the construction in April.

The project has made use of two local sub-contractors and afforded a total of 12 locals employment opportunities.

Monyebudi mentioned that underground water was the main challenge during the construction but they managed to work around this as most parts of KwaThema are moist.

“We are happy that we won’t have to struggle to get inside our yards during bad conditions and emergency services can get to houses with ease now,” says Thami Sibeko, a resident.

Ward Councilor Wilson Busakwe says they granted both males and females the opportunity to work on the site, which promotes gender equality when it comes to employment.

He further says he is happy to see community members embracing service delivery and also co-operating to ensure that the contractors and workers execute their job without disruptions.

“Community members can now enjoy having events in their streets without worrying about dust or bad weather conditions.

“This is what we want to give people in the township – a better living environment with standard facility,” adds Busakwe.
